How to Edit Home Videos Like a Professional

Many, if not most, home movies are boring affairs. They often consist of endless footage, dizzying zooms and clips of people hiding from the camera. With modern editing software, you can make your home movies actually interesting to others rather than putting them to sleep.
First: What to shoot
The first to think about is how to frame your shots. Use the zoom feature to set up a shot, spotlighting the action you want to capture. Avoid using it after the shot is framed. This is dizzying to viewers. Shoot a lot of footage. Film is cheap and you can edit out what you do not want later.
Second: Editing software
There are a number of video editing software programs. Windows Movie Maker, Corel VideoStudio Pro and Cyberlink's PowerDirector are just a few. Choose video editing software that features simple controls for when you are a beginner. Once you have learned the basics, clip out the chit-chat, the zooms and people hiding from the camera. Leave in the child riding her new bike for the first time, Grandpa kissing Grandma and Daddy falling off the trampoline. That stuff is gold.
Third: Effects
You can also add effects, like titles, brightness and slow motion. Initially, it is tempting to use all the effects the software offers, but after a while, certain effects turn out more useful than others. The sepia tone option, giving your videos a black and white look, is pretty cool at first, but not all home movies should look like they were made in the silent era.
Fourth: Impress your friends and family
By using a video editing software, your friends and family can envy your exciting life. You can shoot much more than did previously and leave the unimportant parts on the cutting room floor.
